Gratitude

Good morning, world. It's such a beautiful morning. Shady, Bobo and I just took a walk through the neighborhood and the birds were quite active this morning! More than usual...or maybe it was just my attention. I was paying attention to the birds this morning. They are an amazing part of this world. I am grateful for birds in my world.

I just lit a candle in the living room and set it next to my laptop. I am grateful for fire in this world. It is an amazing force of renewal and a reminder to me that nothing is permanent.

As I type this post I am reminded of how lucky we are as a species to share information on this medium. I believe that one of the fundamental human needs is relationship. With civilization also comes more access to relationship than ever. Our access to communication and relationship is now larger than ever. I wonder if that will cause communities to spread out more. Since you don't have to actually be physically close to communicate anymore...you know? To me, though, a key piece of relationship is physical touch. I am grateful for my close friends and family that I have close to me in my life. I'm grateful that I can text them, email them, call them, visit them, share with them.

On Thursday I decided to drive four minutes to the beach from my office and run along the ocean shore for my lunch break. There were so many people out running, surfing, kayaking, walking with their familes, enjoying the sunshine. I was one of them. Basking in the sun, running along the shore, taking in the beauty and breath of the ocean, and treating my body to some exercise. I am grateful that I work and live in my most favorite place on Earth.

On Tuesday I went for a run with a very dear friend. I asked She'la to list at least ten things she was grateful for. She listed her ten and then asked my ten. I listed my ten. We called it a gratitude run. We fed our souls with gratitude and gave our bodies a much needed release...then we share a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I am grateful for the reminder that when I am struggling I can always put my attention on gratitude and change my point of view.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
